Oil in France
Energy and its consumption in France

France produces 1% of its oil needs (Vermilion produces three quarters). The 99% imported comes from : 30.5% from Africa; 26.2% from the USSR; 15.5% from the Middle East; 13% from the North Sea; 14.8% from others.
End of oil exploration and production in France in 2040 :
The climate plan is a political roadmap enacted by the government and the Ministry of Ecological and Solidarity Transition, published on July 6, 2017 on the Ministry’s website. This climate plan mentions the government’s commitment to “leave hydrocarbons in the ground”. The law adopted on December 30, 2017 sets the conditions for the exercise of our activity :
- No new hydrocarbon exploration permits will be granted, which ends the search for new deposits;
- Existing operating concessions will not be renewed beyond 2040, except specific exceptions for operations conversion to a related substance (for example sulfur or geothermal);
- The ban on oil and shale gas research and exploitation is reinforced by supplementing the provisions of the July 13, 2011 law prohibiting the practice of hydraulic fracturing.
We will complete the current authorizations and, where appropriate, request renewals until 2040. We will continue to produce French oil in a respectful and sustainable manner, while developing local environmentally responsible projects and preparing for the future.
